For many years, the Interim Management Association (IMA) has been the professional body representing interim providers. The IMA is a sector within the Recruitment and Employment Federation (REC), and is one of thirteen focussed sector groups which bring together agencies with a common interest to lobby, champion best practice, share knowledge and develop the reputation and professionalism of their specialist market.

Now the IMA is opening its doors to interim managers through a separate membership organisation called the IMA-Institute. This is a quite distinctive form of individual membership, quite unlike that of the interim providers.
