Insurance (PII)

More commonly called PI, this will provide negligence protection against your liability to compensate clients who have suffered loss or damage due to your professional error. Any person providing a professional service cannot afford to be without PII cover. In addition to paying damages, it covers the cost of the legal fees for defending a case.

Most providers and clients look for £250K of cover. However, to put it crudely, this depends on how much damage you can do to a clients’ business. If, say, you are undertaking a major building contract you might need a bit more cover.
